The Fisherman

Perched lightly on the hillside, the compact “Fisherman” finds its form in the gentle slope of the site, which culminates at water’s edge. The rising roofline mirrors the slope and leaves the majority of the cabin open on three sides to the spectacular view and natural ventilation. A wooden bridge leads to the main entrance beneath the roof’s deep overhang, past a rainwater-collection cistern fed by the sloping roof. The master bedroom, a sleeping loft, kitchen and bath are tucked into the more enclosed front portion. The doubleheight living area features a glassenclosed space with fireplace, which gives way to a screened-in porch, which opens onto a balcony directly above the pond. Natural stone anchors the front end of the cabin while V-shaped trusses allow the larger portion of the structure to barely tread upon the terrain. A skylight projects above the roofline at the sleeping loft, bringing natural illumination into the center of cabin. Rustic and unpretentious, everything about the “Fisherman’s” wooden composition is visible, just as tree trunks and branches reveal themselves around it.
